Here is a quick and easy Filipino Cheese Bars that everyone will surely love. Your house will smell so good while baking these cheese bars, i love the smell of condensed milk, butter and cheese. These sweet and salty treat is tender but firm.

Filipino Cheese Bars are so easy to prepare and can be enjoyed as a snack, dessert or side dish. The main ingredient is the cheese, I mean who doesn't love cheese? This recipe uses cheddar cheese and that cheesy flavor balances the sweetness of the bars.

In the Philippines you often see them in a triangle size. But this recipe is a thicker bar version. The best thing, is you can add more cheese for extra cheesy flavor. Yummy!

I couldn’t remember when was the first time I tasted these, but I am pretty sure that it was during grade school. I have fond memories of buying cheese bars from our school canteen. Back then, these Filipino Cheese Bars were wrapped in a colored cellophane. But these days, they sell it and placed in a box with individual liners.

Description

These Filipino cheese bars are sweet and salty treat is tender but firm.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 can condensed milk (from the 14oz)
  • 3/4 cups grated cheese (add more for toppings)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the the oven to 350 F. Grease a 9×9 baking pan and line with parchment paper.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Mix to combine and set aside.

  3. In a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and egg, whisk until light and fluffy. Add soften butter, vanilla and condensed milk, whisk again until smooth.

  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mix again until just combined, making sure not to over mix. Add the grated cheese and fold this into the mixture.The batter will be thick – it’s okay.

  5. Transfer the batter into the greased pan. Spread the batter evenly using a rubber spatula. Add more cheese on top.

  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 F for 20-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
